This is purely an analysis based on what teams have done TO THIS POINT. There is no projecting what teams will do the rest of the season.
That is why you will not see Michigan State on this list. More than likely they will beat good teams and end up as tournament-worthy, but I’m not going to account for it until it’s happened.
The RPI plays a big role in my early-season rankings, as teams have not yet played conference games. Wins and losses must stand up based on the quality of the opponents (which the RPI attempts to capture); not the relative strength of a conference.
